CBS Sports names Jalin Hyatt among players ‘making waves’ in training camp

It’s only been a couple of weeks since training camp started, but there is no denying the impact Jalin Hyatt has made on the offense this summer.

CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan recently named nine players who are “making waves” with their performances at training camp, one of which was the Giants’ rookie wide receiver.

“New York’s third-round receiver has been turning heads with his performance at training camp,” wrote Sullivan. “While he was expected to be a legit speed weapon within Brian Daboll’s offense, his route-running is much further along than what was initially thought. That sets up the possibility for Hyatt to be even more than simply a downfield threat. That said, Hyatt did say that the team GPS tracked him running 24 mph during practice. For reference, Tyreek Hill has the in-game record at 23.24 mph.”

Hyatt has seemingly made at least one highlight reel play almost every day, including numerous deep touchdown catches. The rookie made a strong catch during Tuesday’s practice against the Lions, finding space between defenders to get open for a 20+ yard reception from Daniel Jones.

The former Tennessee Volunteer had a breakout campaign in 2022, as he put together the best receiving season in school history.

The 6-foot, 185-pound receiver pulled in 67 passes for 1,267 yards and a school-record 15 touchdowns in 12 games, including a program-record five scores in one contest (vs. Alabama on 10/15). He finished the season with averages of 18.9 yards per reception and 105.6 yards per game.

He became the first player in school history to win the Biletnikoff Award, presented each year to the nation’s most outstanding wide receiver. Hyatt also became the first wide receiver in Tennessee history to be named First-Team All-American and the first Volunteer to achieve the feat since Eric Berry in 2009.

He was also named First-Team All-SEC as he led the conference in receiving yards, touchdowns, receptions per game and receiving yards per game.
