Even as the days of summer slowly start to dwindle, the events on the SouthCoast are still coming in hot.
As September starts to roll in so do the festivals, food trucks, and community gatherings. The month is jam-packed with culinary delights to feast on, craft beers to taste test, and entertainment to liven up your day.
Grab your friends, partner, or family because it’s time to fill up your social calendar with these must-attend events happening in September in the SouthCoast.
Thursday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 3: Billed as the “South Coast’s 1st and Only Stand-Up Comedy Festival,” it features a star-studded lineup of some of the most talented comedians from across the nation. There is a diverse mix of styles and personalities to keep you laughing all night long. With four nights, seven shows, and over 25 comics the vibrant atmosphere will ensure a great night out.

Saturday, Sept. 9: Get ready for flavorful brews, tasty bites, live entertainment, and an unforgettable atmosphere. Join Club Madeirense S. S. Sacramento Inc at this 21+ event that combines delicious craft beers, mouthwatering food, and community support into one very special outing. The Festa has 13 breweries on tap and 10 food trucks waiting to serve you. The entertainment includes Stiletto Torpedo, The Dave Alves Band, and Los Duderinos.
Spend the day getting away from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at Madeira Field, 50 Madeira Ave., New Bedford. Tickets are $10 when purchased here or a limited amount will be sold for $15 at the door.

Saturday, Sept. 16: Fort Taber is about to be taken over by this festival of craft beers, great food, music, and lawn games. It will feature some of the area’s most popular food trucks dishing out fan favorites such as juicy flavorful hot dogs, delicious lobster rolls, super satisfying sundaes, and more. Don’t miss the Artisan Market with gifts to buy as you dig into the fun.

42nd Apple Peach Festival and Parade
Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10: This time-honored festival celebrates Acushnet’s love of the fall harvest. Two fun-filled days full of entertainment, crafts, and of course food. The entertainment on Saturday includes Sharon’s Student Showcase, Mark Thompson, Shane Fitzgerald, Extreme Acoustic, Buzzard Blue, and Neal McCarthy Problem. Sunday the parade kicks off at 10 a.m. from Pope Park and arrives at the festival grounds around 11 a.m. The lineup for entertainment is Gonsalves Tia Kwon Do, All Along, Stephanie Lamb with Last Call, Gary Langevin Ensemble, Temporary Phase, Dirty Sanchez Band, and Matt Borrello Band.
Both days are filled with fun from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Long Plain Museum, 1203 Main St., Acushnet. Admission and parking are free and there is a shuttle bus from Acushnet Middle School.

Thursday, Sept. 28: Film lovers, you do not want to miss the return of the Manhattan Short Film Festival Manhattan Short. Showing simultaneously across the globe this event brings great films to venues all over the world and allows the audience to vote and select their favorites. Each finalist will be Oscar Qualified Screenings.
The screenings will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28, at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hl, New Bedford. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at New Bedford Whaling Museum (acmeticketing.com).
Friday, Sept. 29, Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct.1: Jump right into Autumn with three days filled with all the glorious Fall activities that make it a contender for the best season of the year. Live pumpkin carving demos, antique tractor parades, workshops, illuminating gardens, live music, harvest food, and more will be happening.
The event opens at 10 a.m. each day at the Westport Fairgrounds, 200 Pine Hill Road, Westport. Single-day tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors or veterans; $5 for kids ages 6 to 12; and free for kids 5 and under. Saturday, Sept. 30: Who has the best clam chowder in the area? Make sure you head down to the New Bedford Seaport Chowderfest to cast your vote. You will be able to sample delicious chowders and soups by local restaurants and caterers and then pick your favorite. The Portuguese Kids will be there as celebrity Judges and Played Out will be providing the tunes to set the scene.
The tasting will begin at noon with voting ending at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the City Pier 3, New Bedford.
