MORGAN — Cedar Mountain’s Cooper Freitag led the Cougars to a dominating 50-16 victory over Madelia Friday in a Nine-Man South Division, West Subdivision football game.

Freitag had seven total touchdowns on the day, three passing and four on the ground, making big plays on every drive. Brandon Pendleton had two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion through the air, while Lane Guggisberg had a receiving touchdown. Blake Steffl also added a touchdown.

Eric Anderson led the Blackhawks, throwing for 67 yards and two touchdowns while adding 78 yards on the ground. Logan Slater had 43 yards rushing, while Kyle Pietsch had 62 yards and two touchdowns receiving.

Cedar Mountain jumped out to a 24-0 lead after Freitag threw a 40-yard touchdown to Guggisberg, a 33-yard touchdown to Steffl and broke free for a 74-yard rushing touchdown. Cedar Mountain made it 31-0 at the end of the quarter with a 53-yard pass to Guggisberg.

Madelia scored their first touchdown on the first drive of the second quarter, with Anderson throwing a 33-yard pass to Pietsch for the score. Anderson ran in the 2-point conversion to cut the lead to 31-8.

Madelia scored again in the second quarter on a 20-yard toss by Anderson to Pietsch to make it a 31-16 game, but a 60-yard scamper by Freitag on the next play gave Cedar Mountain the momentum back, going up 37-16.

In the third quarter, Cedar Mountain went on a long, nine-play drive that ended with a three-yard connection to Pendleton to put the Cougars up 43-16. Cedar Mountain recovered their onside attempt on the kickoff and Freitag capitalized with a 4-yard run to go up 50-16. Steffl sealed the game with an interception.

Cedar Mountain (1-0) travels to Mountain Lake Area on Friday. Madelia (0-1) hosts Southland on Friday.
