Step into the ‘Urban Wild’ at Charlestown’s newest entertainment destination

Date:

There is a one-stop entertainment destination in the Boston area that caters to people of all ages with its massive space, plethora of gaming options and “must return to atmosphere.”

Located at 100 – D Hood Park Drive in Charlestown, Urban Wild has been drawing crowds since it officially opened in August. The 30,000 square-foot venue is attracting clientele from Seaport, South Boston and more, according to Marketing Director Katie Lofstrom.

What sets Urban Wild apart from similar venues like Lucky Strike or Kings is that guests have access to live music, free games and plenty of indoor and outdoor space all without a cover charge.

“The unparalleled venue was created to entertain millennials, young professionals, and Gen Y alike,” a press release from the venue reads. “[Guests] slip into another dimension and experience the energy of the venue, the custom artwork and design, and the vibrant atmosphere that makes each visit unique.”

The wall art in the building was hand-painted by a local artist and fits into an “Alice in Wonderland” theme.

Upon entry, guests are greeted by a showcase filled with custom apparel including hats, t-shirts and hoodies. Urban Wild also partnered with the brand Concepts to design custom-made bowling shows that are designed with “peace, love and everything fun,” Lofstrom said.

After passing through the “rabbit hole,” guests enter the 180-seat indoor beer garden that “combines old school charm with authentic modern touches,” the press release states. The space features a stage for live acts that perform every Thursday through Saturday. Televisions broadcasting the main stage are located throughout the venue, so guests can watch and hear live music wherever they are.

Urban Wild is mostly booking local artists and DJs at the moment, but plans on getting bigger acts in the future, Lofstrom said. An upcoming list of performers can be found online.

The venue is also a great place to watch sports with 14 large, high definition televisions, as well as the 12-foot main screen behind the stage. The main screen will be showing all Patriots games throughout the season, according to Lofstrom.

The bar inside the beer garden has 48 seats while the bar in the indoor patio has 20. Both bars serve all local craft beers and shareable cocktails served in “the most Instagram and TikTok-worthy retro coolers, finished with funky straws,” the press release said.

The indoor patio has a “cool, basement garage kind of feel,” according to Lofstrom, and is a great space for families to come during the day. The bar has four controllers for guests to play Mario Kart while they eat and drink. The patio also has a shuffleboard table that guests can put their food on while they play.

The outdoor patio, “equaling a festival-like feel and energy,” is complete with string lights, LED ping pong, croquet, Bocce, corn hole and bubble machines. A covered patio is located right next to the uncovered area.

Lastly, and most notably, Urban Wild features 14 state-of-the-art bowling lanes. The lanes have 100 games within them like Angry Birds and Brobots, Lofstrom said. The digital lanes even allow guests to take a photo and project it onto the lane as they bowl. Groups can reserve the lanes and corresponding lounge areas for events as well. The space, with a built-in bar and private kitchen service, can host gatherings up to 200 guests.

Urban Wild has already hosted dozens of birthdays, bachelorette parties and corporate events in their first month. The space has even been completely bought out on several occasions for larger private events.

“We have already had groups of 150 people coming in, and its awesome,” Lofstrom said. “Bowling is the perfect thing, or any of our games, to make it a little more comfortable, a little more fun, a little less intimidating for any sort of social event.”

Anyone looking to book an event can go online or email Lofstrom at [email protected].
