Ron DeSantis blames Hillary Clinton for political division in the country | News

Date:

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) turned the tables on Hillary Clinton, saying she made a “deplorable” statement about Donald Trump supporters.

The Florida governor spoke in an interview with Fox News that aired Sunday, discussing Clinton’s comments on CNN earlier in the week about how “MAGA extremists” might require “formal deprogramming.” DeSantis suggested the failed presidential candidate was still bitter about losing the 2016 election to Trump

“That is deplorable,” DeSantis said, quoting a previous statement from Clinton, who used the same word to describe Trump supporters. “I mean, she is a part of the reason why this country is so divided. I mean, to attack people that support a candidate just because you couldn’t get the job done, and you’re still bitter about that.”

DeSantis had previously rejected the statement in an earlier interview and repeated his opinion of the former president’s supporters.

“But we need to stop casting aspersions on people that disagree with us,” DeSantis went on. “Look, people that support of the former president are patriotic Americans. I think he’s got a good following.”

Now, DeSantis is opposing Trump for the 2024 Republican nomination for president. He expressed his optimism that his campaign will arouse “a lot of movement in the next few months in Iowa” despite current polls reporting otherwise.

Both candidates are facing off against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former governor of New Jersey Chris Christie, former Texas representative Will Hurd, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, political commentator Larry Elder, businessman Perry Johnson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy in the race to win the GOP presidential nomination.
