Texans travel for penultimate regular season road contest at Utah Tech

Date:

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Women’s Soccer will travel to Utah to take on Utah Tech and Southern Utah in its final road contests of the regular season starting on Thursday. The Texans will open against the Trailblazers on Thursday at 8 p.m. in St. George at the Greater Zion Stadium.

Thursday’s contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Crews on the call. Stats can be found on the corresponding links for each game on TarletonSports.com. Follow our Twitter @tarletonwsoccer for live score updates and highlights.

Last week, the Texans hosted the top two teams in the WAC, Utah Valley and Seattle. After holding the Wolverines scoreless for the first 30 minutes on Thursday, the Texans ultimately dropped, 3-0. On Sunday, Tarleton found themselves tied at 0 at the half with the Redhawks of Seattle. But, the Redhawks opened the second half with two goals in the first three minutes and added an insurance goal in the final two minutes of the game.

Mikayla Kendall leads the WAC with 98 saves and averages a league-best 7.00 saves per game. She is also second in save percentage at .790. The Orange, CA native would rank sixth in total saves and eighth in saves per game if Tarleton players were eligible for league averages. Rylee Low’s four goals leads the Texans scoring attack as the defender is Tarleton State’s leading goal scorer and point total (8). She ranks eighth in the WAC in total goals and tenth in goals per game (.27). Mila Bettinelli ranks in the top 10 in three career statistical categories (goals, points per game, and goals per game) among active players in the WAC.

Sydney Rouillard was one of 23 WAC Athletes among every sport in all 11 institutions to be named a WAC Student-Athlete Emerging Leader on Sept. 28.

As a unit, Tarleton ranks in the top five in shutouts (4). The Texans also rank second in fewest fouls called per game (7.07) and lead the WAC in saves per game (7.00). Avery Harr and Rylee Low remain as the only Texans to have started in all 33 games in program history. Head coach Pete Cuadrado has totaled 178 wins in his 21 seasons of coaching across North Dakota State, Wyoming and Tarleton State.

Last season in the two program’s first meeting against one another, neither team was able to score results in a 0-0 draw on Sept. 21 in Stephenville.

Utah Tech went unbeaten in its pair of matches last week, defeating SFA, 3-0 and tying UTRGV, 0-0. The Trailblazers lone win of WAC play came against SFA, but the squad remains unbeaten in league play after five games. UT’s four ties is the most in conference play.

Lacy Fox leads the Trailblazers’ offensive attack with seven of the team’s 20 total goals. Brianna Frey has been the primary keeper for Utah Tech posting 53 saves, a 1.60 GA, and allowing 20 goals in 13 starts.

Lexi Brown was named head coach of Trailblazer Women’s Soccer on June 26, 2023. Brown was previously at Gonzaga for five seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Tarleton State will round out its regular season road slate in Cedar City on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Southern Utah at the Thunderbird Soccer Field. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
