Major airlines are waiving change fees for travelers with scheduled flights to and from Los Cabos, Mexico and top island destinations throughout the Caribbean this weekend as a pair of hurricanes bear down on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula and the Leeward Islands.

A category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph as of 8 a.m. ET Saturday, Hurricane Norma is projected to move over the Mexican resort destination of Los Cabos with destructive winds and a dangerous storm surge late Saturday afternoon or early evening.

Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, Hurricane Tammy is packing maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and is expected to move near or over portions of the Leeward Islands, including Guadeloupe and Antigua and Barbuda on Saturday before reaching the northern Leeward Islands on Sunday.

Carriers, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue and others are waiving change and cancellation fees for travelers impacted by this weekend’s storms.

In addition to Los Cabos International Airport—where more than 80 percent of Saturday’s flights have been canceled—airlines have extended the waivers to airports throughout the Caribbean, including in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Bridgetown, Barbados, Saint Lucia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, among other places.

In most cases, affected passengers will have a brief period to rebook their flights without penalty. As always, travelers are advised to check their flight status with their airline prior to arriving at the airport.
