YG entertainment distances itself from G-Dragon amid drugs related controversy

Date:

Former BigBang member G-Dragon hit headlines after his name cropped up in an alleged drugs case recently. Naver News reported that the Incheon Police Agency had booked the popular K-Pop singer on charges of violating the law on control of narcotics.
YG Entertainment, who was representing the singer for a few years, distanced itself from G-Dragon amid the controversy. The agency told Xportsnews, “[G-Dragon] is currently not an artist under our agency, so it is difficult for us to make an official response.”
Earlier in June this year, YG Entertainment had commented on BIGBANG’s G-Dragon’s contract with them and stated that their association had ended but they would continue to collaborate for exclusive ventures. Their statement read, “G-Dragon’s exclusive contract with us has expired but we are collaborating with him through a separate contract for his other activities such as advertisement, etc. There will be discussions regarding additional contracts if he resumes his music activities. We will spare no effort to provide support for this.”
Soon after G-Dragon was booked, reports suggested that the singer’s name emerged during an investigation in actor Lee Sun Kyun‘s drug scandal. However, Soompi quoted a police officer who clarified, “Because it’s a case that’s currently under investigation, we cannot reveal concrete details. This is a separate case that has no connection to Lee.”
