A look at what’s happening in Cleveland State Athletics…

Men’s Basketball
-The Vikings will kickoff the 2023-24 with three games this week, traveling to Duquesne on Monday, November 6 before hosting Defiance (Wednesday, November 8) and Ohio (Saturday, November 11). 
-Cleveland State hosted Baldwin Wallace in its lone exhibition of the season last time out, picking up a 96-48 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
-Earlier this month, the Vikings were tabbed to finish fourth in the #HLMBB Preseason Poll, while senior Tristan Enaruna was named to the Preseason First Team.  

Women’s Basketball
-Cleveland State will open the 2023-24 campaign on the road this week, traveling to Bowling Green (Tuesday, November 7) and Loyola (Sunday, November 12). 
-Last week, the Vikings picked up a 101-60 victory over Malone in their lone exhibition of the season. 
-Earlier this season, the Vikings were tabbed to finish second in the #HLWBB Preseason Poll, while senior Destiny Leo was named the #HLWBB Preseason Player of the Year and earned a spot on the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List. 

Volleyball
-Cleveland State will close out regular season play on the road this week, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne (Tuesday, November 7), Milwaukee (Friday, November 10) and Green Bay (Saturday, November 11).
-Entering the final stretch of regular season matches, the Vikings are sitting sixth in the #HLVB standings.
-Last time out, senior Abby Miller returned to the starting lineup for the Vikings, posting a double-double with 48 assists and a career-high 24 digs against Oakland on Senior Night. 

Cross Country
-The Vikings will close out the 2023 campaign at the NCAA Regional this weekend, with the women’s 6K race slated for a 12:30 p.m. start.
-This year’s NCAA Regional will be hosted in Madison, Wis. at the Zimmer Championship Course. 

Fencing
-The Vikings are off from competition until November 19, when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the OSU Elite Invitational.
-Last time out, Cleveland State opened the season at the Drew Fall Invitational, with the men’s team collecting three wins on the day. 

Swim & Dive
-Cleveland State will be off from competition until next weekend, when they host the 11th annual Magnus Cup Thursday, November 16 through Sunday, November 19. 
-Last time out, both the men (182-116) and the women (179-121) defeated Youngstown State. 
-For the men, Jackson Nester won three individual events (1000 Free, 200 Back, 200 IM), while Xander Austin won both diving events. 
-For the women, Haley Palmer (50 & 100 Free) and Kellsie Krisch (200 Breast, 200 IM) both won two events on the day.  

Wrestling
-Cleveland State will be back in action at the West Virginia Duals on Sunday, November 12, taking on the host Mountaineers at 1:00 p.m. and Duke at 3:00 p.m.
-The Vikings started their season against No. 10 Iowa State last time out, with No. 29 Dylan Layton picking up a 22-18 victory against the Cyclones.  

Women’s Tennis
-The Vikings will close out the fall portion of their schedule this weekend, taking part in the Bronco Super Challenge hosted by Western Michigan.
-The three-day tournament will run Friday, November 10 – Sunday, November 12.  

Men’s Tennis
-Cleveland State closed out its fall campaign last weekend with a strong showing at the Wake Forest Invitational.
-Cole Chappell picked up the D1 Singles Flight title, while JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gedlitschka earned the B2 Doubles Flight title. 

Viking Of The Week Nominations
Xander Austin, Men’s Swim & Dive
Won both the 1m and 3m diving events against Youngstown State, posting a score of 278.85 in the 1m and 268.05 in the 3m. 

Kellsie Krisch, Women’s Swim & Dive
Won two events in the dual against YSU, finishing first in the 200 Breast (2:25.92) and 200 IM (2:12.66). 

Abby Miller, Volleyball
Returned as Cleveland State’s primary setter on Senior Night, finishing with a double-double of 48 assists and a career-high 24 digs.  

Cole Chappell, Men’s Tennis
Captured the D1 Singles Flight title at the Wake Forest Invitational after going 3-0 on the weekend.
