Varsity field hockey teams from Class 5 Independence and Class 4 Loudoun Valley high schools both won state semifinal games Friday to advance to the state finals in their respective classification.
Independence will play First Colonial and Loudoun Valley will face Gloucester in state championship games on Saturday at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach.
Loudoun County and Loudoun Valley each earned home wins Friday in the first round of the Region 4C football playoffs. Loudoun County will face Tuscarora and Loudoun Valley will square off with John Champe in the region semifinals on Nov. 17.
Stone Bridge and Briar Woods will host Region 5D semifinal games on Nov. 17 following first-round byes. Stone Bridge will host Massaponax and Briar Woods will host Riverbend.
The VHSL Class 5 (Riverside) and Class 4 (Rock Ridge, Loudoun County) tournaments tip off Saturday with quarterfinal round matches.
