Report: ESPN accounts pause posting on X

Date:

The fight between X and multiple major corporations continue. And it has spread beyond a pause in advertising.

Via Sean Keeley of AwfulAnnouncing.com, multiple ESPN accounts made no Saturday posts on the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Per Keeley, the main ESPN account, ESPN CFB, and College GameDay have not posted. It appears that other ESPN accounts, including SportsCenter (which has 42.3 million followers) and the ESPN’s NFL account (4.3 million) also have not posted.

A controversy over antisemitic content on X prompted an advertising pause on Friday by Disney (ESPN’s parent company), IBM, Amazon, NBCUniversal, and Apple.

The deeper question is whether ESPN stopped posting, or whether X (in some sort of retaliatory move regarding the advertising pause) pulled the plug on ESPN posting.

Since Elon Musk purchased Twitter, the site has been at the center of multiple controversies. The company reportedly has lost billions in value. More and more users seemingly would prefer that it implode.

We will continue to maintain our presence there, given that it has provided for nearly 15 years a vehicle for making our content available. Unless and until it goes away for good.
