BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb’s women’s basketball team travels to its third road game in a row with UNC Greensboro on Sunday afternoon, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. tipping off in the Fleming Gymnasium. Sunday’s game will air live on the Varsity Network App, GWUSports.com/listenlive, and ESPNCLT.com with Phil Constantino and Jim “Mojo” Morrison calling the action for the Runnin’ Bulldogs Sports Network. The game will also stream live on ESPN+ (watchespn.com).
‘DAWG WATCH
Head coach Scott Merritt brings the ‘Dawgs to their sixth game of the season against the Spartans, after a bumpy start to the 2023-24 campaign.
With five non-conference games down, junior guard Ashley Hawkins leads the Runnin’ Bulldogs in scoring averaging 32.0 minutes, 13.8 points (5th in the Big South), 5.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds per game, and is shooting 44 percent from the field. Hawkins has yet to score below double-digits in the five games for Gardner-Webb this season and last game at the College of Charleston, she tied the single-game program record for assists with 11.
Freshman guard Lauren Bailey follows Hawkins in points as a solid shooter for GWU averaging 25.8 minutes, with 9.8 points, and 4.2 rebounds. Bailey has hit a three in each game for the Runnin’ Bulldogs and scored double-digits in three of five games. Graduate student forward Ramatoulaye Keita has commanded the paint for GWU with a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Nyla Walker had the best scoring night of the season for GWU last Monday against the College of Charleston, with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting, five rebounds, and six assists.
RUNNIN’ BULLDOGS VISIT SPARTANS
The UNC Greensboro Spartans enter Sunday’s game at 4-2, opening their season with an 71-65 loss to Appalachian State University and following with three straight wins including a 61-30 win over South Carolina State, an 93-25 win over Division III Pfeiffer University, and a 63-60 win against Big South foe Radford University. The Spartans have split the last two contest, dropping a 72-51 game to no. 9 Virginia Tech and winning over Montreat 75-46. Last season UNCG posted a record of 16-14 falling in the second round of the SoCon Championship to Wofford College 68-63. Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series against the Spartans 2-4. The last matchup came on Nov. 11, 2022, when Gardner-Webb beat UNCG 83-66 in the Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.

After this Sunday road contest against the Spartans, Gardner-Webb will take a quick break before challenging Furman University on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m. back in the Paul Porter Arena.
