A seven-run first inning jump-started Dunkirk to a 12-0 five-inning shutout of Silver Creek/Forestville in nonleague baseball Tuesday at Al Stuhlmiller Field.
Four Marauders pitchers combined on a one-hitter with starter Anthony Cosme striking out eight. He was followed by Josh Smith, Greg Orcutt and Zach Zentz.
“An impressive start by Cosme,” Dunkirk head coach Frank Jagoda said. “Josh Smith was asked to pitch to two batters and retired them both.”
Dunkirk’s seven-run first was highlighted by singles from Jon Ganey and Anthony Piede. The inning also included two hit batters and a pair of errors by the Black Knights (0-1).
The Marauders (2-2) added three runs in the third inning, all coming with two outs. Paul Trippy singled and Josh Lemanski walked before Donnie Jackson hit a three-run home run over the left-field fence for his second home run of the spring.

In the fourth, Dylan Bankoski singled, Gabe Valentine walked, Davi Avalle hit an RBI single and Nathaniel Garcia drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.
Dunkirk is slated to open Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West play Saturday at home against Salamanca.
“We will be seeing a quality arm Saturday and we need to focus on our first league game,” Jagoda said.
Aiden Piccolo, Manny Sanchez and Thomas Hogg combined for five strikeouts on the mound for Silver Creek/Forestville.
HAMBURG PREVAILS LATE
HAMBURG — Hamburg scored six runs in its final two at-bats to beat Fredonia 8-4 in nonleague play.
The Bulldogs went up 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles, a sacrifice fly and a squeeze bunt. They added their final two unearned runs in the sixth.
The Hillbillies (0-1) led 2-0 early as Ashton Putney and Matt Cowan walked before Owen Rush’s RBI single. Cowan later scored on an error.
Hamburg tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out error that plated two runs.
Fredonia regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Luca Gullo doubled and Putney singled before Cowan walked to load the bases. Rush then plated a run with a fielder’s choice and Putney scored on an error on the same play.
Rush threw the first three innings and struck out three before A.J. Kinney and Cowan finished on the mound for the Hillbillies.
WALSH DAZZLES FOR TROJANS
MAYVILLE — Southwestern Jameson Walsh threw five no-hit innings to lead the Trojans to a 10-3 nonleague victory over Chautauqua Lake.
Southwestern led 6-0 after two innings and added four more runs in the sixth before the Eagles scored three runs off the Trojans’ bullpen.
Walsh, Judd Harris and Chase Kartesz each had two hits, including a double, while George Marshall and Oscar Harris each had a pair of singles as Southwestern pounded out 15 hits.
Connor Nowicki, Cordell Rivera and Ragen Crandall each singled for Chautauqua Lake.
WARRIORS EDGE WOLFPACK
SALAMANCA — Jaxson Ross collected two hits, including a triple, drove in three runs and pitched 31/3 scoreless innings to lead Salamanca to a 5-3 victory over Clymer/Sherman/Panama in a nonleague game Tuesday.
Ross was relieved in the fourth inning by Cory Holleran, who worked the final 32/3 innings and surrendered all three runs.
Angel Perez also collected a pair of hits for the Warriors (4-0), who scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, and Jacob Herrick chipped in a double.
The Wolfpack (0-1), who pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh inning, collected nine hits, including two by Gavin Burchanowski. Grant Lictus smacked a triple and drove in two runs. Bryce Hinsdale took the loss on the mound.
JHS FALLS ON THE ROAD
WEST SENECA — Judy Khoury had himself quite a day in West Seneca West’s Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 opener.
The junior middle infielder collected four hits, including a two-run home run and a pair of doubles, and drove in six runs to propel the Indians (2-0, 1-0) to a 13-1 victory over Jamestown.
The Red & Green (1-3, 0-1) had three hits — all singles — by Dom Weber, Chase Bonta and Owen Kearney.
