Grand Rapids, MI – The first snow of the season could arrive across Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin next weekend, just as Thanksgiving travel begins. Light snow and strong winds are forecasted for Nov. 23-25, creating potential challenges for drivers and holiday preparations.
According to the National Weather Service, a 20% chance of snow and a 40% chance of high winds could affect areas across the Great Lakes. Highways like I-94, I-80, and I-90 may see slick roads and reduced visibility, making travel hazardous. Gusts as high as 40 mph on Nov. 23 could further impact driving and cause delays at regional airports.
Temperatures during this period will remain cold, with daytime highs in the mid-30s to low 40s and nighttime lows dropping below freezing. Even minimal snow accumulation combined with strong winds may create dangerous travel conditions, particularly on exposed roadways and overpasses.
Travelers heading through Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin are advised to monitor forecasts closely and prepare for potential delays during this pre-Thanksgiving window. With Thanksgiving on Nov. 28, weather-related disruptions could complicate early travel plans.
Stay tuned for weather updates as the Great Lakes region prepares for its first taste of winter.
