HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University Athletics celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day by showcasing female student-athletes and staff of HPU Athletics.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day is an annual celebration celebrating all girls and women in sports. During the photoshoot, the women were asked to give a piece of advice to give to younger athletes.
For freshman Abigail Dibble, a midfielder on the women’s soccer team, the advice was, “Don’t compare your athletic journey to anyone else.” Her teammate Courtney Andruczk, a junior forward, said, “When things get hard, just remember the end result you want and why you’re here.”
Auriane Viola, a graduate pole vaulter, shared, “Progress and success look different to everyone, so just be patient.” Ashari Pearson, a freshman sprinter/jumper, said, ” Anything you dream is possible. You will have to set goals and work harder. Celebrate every win and stay encouraged on every loss. Never lose sight of your vision and do it.”
On the women’s lacrosse team, Bella Germani and Tatum Mehring joined us. Germani shared, “I wish I had known now that it is just to always be positive in the sport and push yourself every single day, whether in practice or a game-like situation.” Mehring stated, “Whenever you’re ready, stay committed and trust the process.” Mehring is a redshirt junior defender and Germani is a junior transfer midfielder.
Brooke Briscoe and Grace Killion, two defensive specialist freshmen, represented the volleyball team. They shared together, “I would just say that pressure is a privilege and that you must embrace the challenges you face in college. I would just say cherish every moment and soak it all in because it goes by quickly. Make the most of it because you’re with your best friends daily playing the sport you love.”
A freshman rower, Kate Concepcion, shared, “Stay committed and trust the process.” Concepcion and the rowing team started their first season this fall at High Point as the 17th Division I sport.
Graduate cross country runner Alyssa Hendrix said, “Be consistent.” Her teammate, freshman Danielle Jensen, said, “Find the joy in it.”
Sofia Benavides-Herberth, a graduate golfer, said, “To enjoy the process, trust your abilities as a player and always believe in yourself!” Julia McLaughlin, a fellow graduate golfer, added, “You don’t rise to the level of the occasion but rather sink to the level of your preparation.”
For the women’s basketball them, freshman forward Annalise Lindsay, who shared, “My advice would be: If you only have 60% and you give 60%, you gave 100%. Celebrate the little wins and be proud of yourself. The little joy and motivation from that will go a long way!”
Senior guard Lauren Scott said “My advice to younger athletes would be keep Christ first and never let anyone stand in your way of being great!” Redshirt freshman Emma Larios’ advice was, “Your worth and identity is in Christ, and not how you perform, but use the gifts God has given you to glorify Him!”
