Ag Fair returns to GCV&M this weekend | Entertainment

Date:

MUMFORD – The annual Agricultural Fair at Genesee Country Village & Museum, 1410 Flint Hill Rd., returns this weekend.

The sprawling festival, running Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, presents visitors with an event akin to country fairs of old. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Visitors may shop a bustling farmer’s market filled with more than 35 local vendors, enjoy live music and traditional entertainment, watch livestock shows and demonstrations, peruse entries into the Blue Ribbon Competition, and see the Historic Village alive with fall colors.

As guests make their way around the museum’s 19th-century village, they will explore agricultural tasks in action as they would have been done in the 1800s. Visitors may lend the costumed historical farmers a hand with corn shilling, see the silage chopper and root grinder in action, and watch seasonal tasks take place on the early settlement. The historic kitchens will also be in operation.

The Rochester Poultry Association’s 115th annual show in the Waterfowl Tent and Exhibition Barn will allow visitors to explore an extensive range of bird life.

Other demonstrations will feature professional sheep herding dogs from Ox Creek Farm as they round up the herd, horses from local riders and the WNY Sidesaddle Association parading around the Village.

Local 4-H youth will exhibit rabbits, goats, cattle, and poultry. The Genesee Country Dairy Goat Club Show will also take place.

Visitors may also meet the museum’s heirloom breed farm animals which include oxen, pigs, sheep, chickens, and geese.
