The St. Elmo Public Market located at 4329 S. Congress Ave., Austin, TX 78745, was bought by Pins Mechanical Company from Ohio, which already operates successful locations in the Midwest, including cities like Cincinnati and Indianapolis. Construction is expected to begin before the end of the year with the hope that the space will finally open in 2024.
It will feature four duckpin bowling lanes, over 30 pinball machines, and over 40 arcade games like Frogger and NBA Jam. There will also be four bars, a courtyard, and two mezzanines for private events, according to Eater.
Eight years ago, the St. Elmo Public Market, which used to be a school bus factory and furniture store, announced it would be opening its doors to the public in 2018. However, the project was delayed and abandoned even after the location announced a lineup of seven highly-rated Austin restaurants to be part of the space’s food hall in 2021.
The St. Elmo Public Market’s renovated warehouse was listed for sale in July 2022. It was marketed to have dozens of Austin restaurants and drink spots like Olamaie, Salt and Time, a cafe by Greater Goods Coffee Co., and a new desserts shop by Lick Honest Ice Creams, according to Eater.
Community Impact reported earlier this year that residents began moving into the property’s only completed project, St. Elmo Apartments which is just feet away from the new development.
