Zach Cregger’s 2022 horror hit Barbarian is getting a video game adaptation for PC and consoles, exclusively reported by our friends over at Bloody Disgusting earlier today.
New Regency Pictures and Diversion3 Entertainment (Friday the 13th: The Game, Evil Dead: The Game) will adapt the twisty horror that shocked audiences last year, with Diversion3 leading the creative team. Details on gameplay and design are yet to follow, but fingers crossed we get to use a measuring tape as a weapon at some point.
In a statement, Executive Producer of Diversion3 Entertainment Tim Hesse expressed his excitement
“We’re very excited to work with the team at New Regency to expand on the settings, characters, and creatures of Barbarian […] The film did a magnificent job of not only scaring audiences with its unexpected and horrifying twists and turns, but also in establishing strong characters thrown into terrifying situations.
Yariv Milchan, Chairman and CEO of New Regency Pictures, added:
“Expanding the Barbarian universe into gaming provides a new way to capture the horror that made the film such a success. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the incredibly talented team at Diversion3 Entertainment to immerse new and existing fans in this world.”
If you’ve somehow miraculously avoided Barbarian spoilers for this long, we won’t be the ones to ruin it for you, but we will gently remind you that the film starred Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and scream king Justin Long, following a young woman who books a rental home only to discover that a man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest…
While there’s still no news on a long-awaited Barbarian physical release, a return to the brutal world of Barbarian will no doubt come as exciting news for horror fans and horror gamers alike. Bloody Disgusting tell us that no release date for the Barbarian video game adaptation has yet been set, but you better believe we’ll have all the updates for you as and when we get them.
