Beechview shooting sends 1 man to the hospital

A man was taken to the hospital in “extremely grave” condition Thursday after being shot in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood.Pittsburgh Public Safety public information Officer Cara Cruz said the shooting happened in the 1500 block of Beechview Avenue around 4:02 p.m. The victim is a man in his early 20s. Cruz said he was shot near the corner of Beechview and Broadway Avenues. The alleged shooter stayed on the scene and surrendered to police, Cruz said. A firearm was also recovered. “The shooter did stay on the scene and surrendered to police, and at this time, he has been taken to headquarters for questioning,” Cruz said.Two witnesses were also taken in for questioning.Sky 4 was over the scene as officers and police stretched crime scene tape around the scene. “It’s unsettling, as it is in every neighborhood,” Cruz said. “Violence in any neighborhood is unacceptable.” Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced that light-rail T cars traveling on the Red line were being impacted by the investigation. That disruption has ended, and rail service is back to normal. The victim’s and suspect’s names are unknown at this time. Officials have not said what led up to this shooting.
