Campaign finance reports filed in BCSC board races

More than $85,000 was poured into three races for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Board of Trustees last year.

Campaign finance reports show Whittney Loyd received the most direct and in-kind contributions during the entire year, according to the fourth quarterly campaign finance filings of 2024.

Loyd, the president of Turning Point Domestic Violence Services, received $23,296. That’s 91% more than her opponent, accountant David Theile, who received $12,170 in both direct and in-kind contributions in 2024.

With 59.37% of the vote, Loyd won the District 3 seat on Nov. 5.

IU Columbus mathematics lecturer and former BCSC educator Leigh Britt was able to garner $16,235 for the year in contributions for the race – 67% more than the $9,722 that Tom Glick, received.

Glick, a local farmer, was selected by 52% of the voters. He won over Britt with a 947-vote gap.

In the District 7 race, there was only an 8% financial gap between Samantha Ison, who raised $11,230 last year, and Nicole “Nikki” Wheeldon, who received $12,167.

Wheeldon, a Cummins Inc. plant manager who served as school board president last year, defeated Ison, who owns an insurance agency, by 81 votes.

A local political action committee that said it is seeking “school reform,” reported raising $14,482 for all of last year. The PAC, called Your Community Partnership,” supported Theile, Ison and Glick. Treasurer Megan Johnson reported the PAC closed out 2024 with $7,943 in cash on hand.

Loyd, Britt and Wheeldon have received support from the Indiana PAC for Education, which is the political action division of the Indiana State Teachers Association, as well as contributions from several current and former local leaders.

All financial figures below are rounded off to the nearest dollar. While financial reports list the same in-kind PAC funds as both contributions and expenditures, they are shown below as contributions only.

While year-to-date figures are used, only contributors who made their final donations on Oct. 12 or after were requred to be listed. Those who made earlier contributions, but none after Oct. 12, are not part of the report.
