Candidates vie for Charlotte City Council’s only open seat – WSOC TV

Date:

CHARLOTTE — In-person voting has begun and on The Political Beat, we’re focusing on the city of Charlotte’s only open seat with a primary challenge: District 3.

Stretching from South End to Steele Creek this area includes much of west Charlotte.

Incumbent representative Victoria Watlington is running at large and is joined by Tiawana Brown, Melinda Lilly, and Warren Turner who are also running for the seat.

“And I’m going to give back. I’m going to rewrite the story, I’m going to change the narrative,” Brown said.

“And I think right now we’re in a really critical moment for the city and just for residents, in general, figuring out what normal looks like after coming out of a pandemic or with a changing political climate,” Lilly said.

Turner declined to be interviewed by Channel 9.

>>> Tune into The Political Beat on Sunday at 12:35 p.m. & 11:35 p.m. on Ch.9 and at 10:35 p.m. on TV 64 for highlights of the race filled with growth, goals, and past controversies.
