PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s basketball director of strength and conditioning & sports science Michael Davie has been named the 2023 Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Outstanding Sports Alumnus on Thursday.
The Outstanding Alumni Awards (OAA) recognize graduates of QUT and its predecessor institutions for exceptional professional and personal achievements and contributions locally, nationally, and internationally.
Established in 1991 the awards showcase and celebrate the diverse achievements, leadership, and impact of alumni who are leaders and influencers in their professions and communities.
Davie graduated from QUT in 2005 with a bachelor’s of applied science with an emphasis in human movement studies. Following graduation, he would go onto work for the Brisbane ROAR FC helping them to four-consecutive national championship games, ultimately winning the title in 2008 and 2010.
He served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Australian Swimming Team from 2011-13, helping The Dolphins win a total of 10 medals at the 2012 London Olympics. He spent eight years at the Queensland Academy along with working Great Britain’s women’s basketball team during EuroBasket 2015.
Before making the move to BYU this summer, Davie spent eight years as the strength and conditioning coach at the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks winning the 2021 NBA Championship. He helped Giannis Antetokounmpo be named to the Most Valuable Player twice before turning 26, making him one of three players to achieve the feat.
