Downtown events add to Christmas Walk fun | News, Sports, Jobs

Date:

There’s more than just the parade to the Warren Downtown Christmas Walk. Several events will take place in and around the parade next Friday night.

The Warren County Historical Society will be holding a Victorian Christmas Open House from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“Victorian Christmas trees, decorated by the Warren Garden Club, are lit and embellished with vintage ornaments accenting the architecture of the historic home on both the first and second floors,” Event Coordinator Sara Bogniak said.

Light refreshments will be served and the Youngsville High School string orchestra will play in the front parlor.

“The music of John Bowler will add to the ambiance as he plays an antique guitar in the upstairs Victorian parlor,” Bogniak said.

“Children are invited to stop by the Bourquin store to craft a homemade ornament to hang on their Christmas trees at home.”

Three entities – HEROES, a support group for children and families with disabilities, White Cane Coffee and the Rotary Club – are joining forces to provide all-inclusive sensory activities from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 305 Second Ave.

Free Books for Kids Town will also be giving away books during the Christmas Walk.

The funding for the books had been provided by sponsors for the last 10 years but Ruby Wiles said there wasn’t a sponsor – thus, no books – for this year “until the surprise phone call.”

“George Frances and Otis Conquer are this year’s sponsors,” Wiles said. “These two bouncing two year olds love to read and want to encourage other kids to read. Thanks to beaming grandparents – Ruby Stone and Brad Conquer – the tradition continues.”
