Gaels make final push for playoffs | News, Sports, Jobs

Date:

St. Edmond will look to send seniors JT Laufersweiler and Leo Ehn out on a high note and give themselves a shot at a possible postseason bid here Friday night.

The Gaels host Glidden-Ralston inside Dodger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Laufersweiler and Ehn are the only seniors on the roster for St. Edmond (4-3 overall, 2-3 in district).

“We know we are still alive and that all we control is what we do,” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “Things have to happen in our favor, but first and foremost, we have to go out and take care of our business.”

Last Friday night, the Gaels went on the road to pick up a 48-42 victory over Colo-Nesco as Laufersweiler had 447 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns. He completed 21 of 31 for 334 without an interception while rushing 20 times for 113.

Sam Myer added a career-high 198 yards rushing on 24 carries while Grant Galles had 10 receptions for 170 and three scores. Kinnick Henning caught the game-winning TD off a ball deflected by Galles in the end zone.

“We asked the kids to make plays last week and that’s what they did,” Dillon said. “This eight-player game is all about scoring and producing. It was a really great win and we need to do it again this week.”

Laufersweiler has thrown for 1,860 yards and rushed for another 558 with 25 passing TDs and 10 more on the ground. Galles, a sophomore, has 43 receptions for 849 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Laufersweiler is tied for fourth in the state in total TDs and is sixth in passing scores. His 20.2 yards per completion is the third-highest while his yardage total is fifth-best. Galles is tied for third in receiving TDs and fourth in receiving yards.

Myer has been active on defense with a team-leading 59 tackles while Adam Walker has 20.5 tackles for loss. Henning and Quintin Jaeschke each had 10 tackles for loss and Koleman Hanson has recorded five sacks.

Walker ranks fifth in the state in TFLs and Myer is tied for 14th in total stops in eight-player.

Glidden-Ralston (5-2, 4-1) is second in the district behind Audubon with Baxter third. Colo-Nesco, Coon Rapids-Bayard and St. Edmond are all tied for third at 2-3.

“This is a team that can move the ball,” Dillon said. “We’ve got to try and slow them down and in the process, we have to put points on the board. We know going in that we are going to have to outscore them to win.”

The Wildcats are coming off a 24-6 victory over Coon Rapids-Bayard that came on the heels of a 14-point setback to Audubon. They also dominated Collins-Maxwell while besting Baxter by 10 and Colo-Nesco by four.

Junior Colby Wallace has a team-high 862 yards rushing and 18 scores while also throwing for 350 and four TDs. Emmett Snyder has 544 yards rushing and Alex Daniel is the top receiver with seven catches for 105 yards and two scores.

Wallace is the anchor on defense with 10 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks as Daniel has 55 tackles and Brayton Meyer three interceptions. Glidden-Ralston has forced 14 turnovers on the year.
