Georgia volleyball snapped a three-match losing streak on Friday, Nov. 17 with a four-set win over South Carolina. Graduate outside hitter Kacie Evans tallied the 2,000th point of her career in the game, becoming just the fifth player in program history to do so.
Georgia started the match off hot with a 7-3 lead before South Carolina battled back to go up 8-7. After a back-and-forth affair, Georgia led 18-17 and went on a 4-0 run to take a commanding 22-17 lead. The Bulldogs finished off the set 25-23.
Redshirt freshman Ana Julia Bleeker went on a nine-point serving run to start the second set off and put Georgia up 9-1. South Carolina wasn’t as resilient this time, and Georgia took the set 25-19.
South Carolina found a rhythm in the third set and led the entire frame. The Gamecocks took the set with a wire-to-wire 25-18 win.
Georgia came back strong in the fourth set, leading by six before the media timeout. Senior Sophie Fischer recorded her 20th kill of the night and an ace from Evans put them up 22-15 and prompted a South Carolina timeout.
After the timeout, South Carolina won seven of the next nine points to draw within two. However, a 22nd kill from Fischer sealed the set and the match for Georgia.
