Harold W. Whitford Jr. passed away at home while enjoying a fire in the fireplace on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, in Frewsburg, NY.
Harold was born on May 2, 1955 to Harold W. Whitford Sr. and Shirley Kirchhoff. Harold was always a man of high integrity, strong work ethic and his moral compass was always in the best interest of all. Harold was a Jack of all Trades and a friend to so many. Among his many adored traits his best were his humor and kindness. He was always the man with the answers and always made sure his loved ones were well taken care of. Harold was a hard worker and will be remembered in our memories telling us “Get moving daylights burning!”
Harold started working as a teen delivering newspapers, and as an adult he drove taxi, pumped gas at Minute Man and then drove truck at Welders Supply. When he got hurt working and couldn’t keep driving truck, he switched gears and went full time in to Property Management. As he was recovering from his injuries he went to school and got a degree in Business and used his real estate license and experience to create H. Whitford Property Management. It was through this that he supported his family for the next 29 years. He also helped his wife, Dawn, open and operate Dawn’s Shirts ‘n’ Sports for a number of years spending his weekends at Stateline Speedway, Eriez Speedway and different shows for purchasing new merchandise. He was a busy man, but family was most important to him and he loved every minute he spent with them and supporting them.
Harold loved to be involved to participate and influence positive changes. He was the founder of Jamestown Roller Hockey Association, a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Lakewood Rod & Gun, Chautauqua Fire Department and Gloria Dei Church where he played softball. He was also a COI Board member, the President of the Real Estate Investors Association, an Associate Broker at Howard Hanna Holt, was on the Healthy Homes Committee and several other Housing Committees throughout the years. Harold was also passionate about politics, both running himself and supporting others, and told his kids every year to get out and vote to make a change. Harold was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a proud brother Mason at Mt. Moriah Lodge #145.
Harold will be forever deeply missed by his wife, Dawn, of nearly 50 years and children Bethany, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Andrew, Brandi and Jordyn. He was so proud to be a Papa to Scottlyn, Tyler, Londyn, Mason, Paige, Piper, Allison, Ava, James, Gavyn, Amelia, Gracelyn and Meirah as well as all of his bonus grandchildren Alex, Izzy, and Dawson. Harold will also be missed by his close friend and business partner Brenda and his siblings Vern, Susan, Dawn, Nate, Jon and Brad.
Harold is preceded in death by his infant grandson Jaxon Steven, mother Shirley Kirchhoff, father Harold W. Whitford Sr., and stepmother Ann Whitford.
Harold’s family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to The New Directions Foundation, 356 Main Street ER, Randolph, NY 14772 by phone 716-358-3636 x5213 or online at https://fosteringgood.org/support/ in honor of continuing Harold’s mindset to always give back locally and belief that all children deserve a loving family.
