UNDATED (AP) — No. 3 Washington, No. 4 Florida State and No. 5 Oregon all moved up a spot in The Associated Press college football poll to give the Pac-12 two top-five teams for the first time since the final ranking of the 2016 season. Georgia remained No. 1 and received 52 of 62 first-place votes. Michigan returned to No. 2 following a week at No. 3 and received 10 first-place votes after beating Ohio State 30-24. The Buckeyes slipped from second to No. 6 and cleared the way for Washington to reach its best ranking since finishing the 2000 season at No. 3.
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Cougars fired football coach Dana Holgorsen a day after finishing his third losing season in five years. The Cougars ended the year with three consecutive losses, capped by a 27-13 defeat at UCF on Saturday. Houston was 4-8 overall and 2-7 in Big 12 play in its inaugural season in the newly configured conference.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Solomon Washington had 18 points, Wade Taylor IV scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and No. 12 Texas A&M rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat Iowa State 73-69 in the third-place game at the ESPN Events Invitational. Taylor, who averaged 29 points in the first two games of the tourney, hit a foul-line jumper to make it 66-60 with 1:18 to play. Iowa State got 15 points from Milan Momcilovic. Keshon Gilbert scored 14 and Tamin Lipsey had 10 points, 14 rebounds and four assists.
ESTERO, Fla. (AP) — Caitlin Clark scored 32 points, and No. 5 Iowa survived wasting a pair of double-digit leads before rallying to finally beat No. 16 Kansas State 77-70 in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase on Sunday night. Clark made seven 3-pointers, the last coming with 47 seconds left, to help ensure the Hawkeyes (7-1) would win and avenge a Nov. 16 loss to Kansas State. Molly Davis added 13, while Kate Martin had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Iowa. Serena Sundell and Ayoka Lee each scored 18 for Kansas State (6-1).
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (AP) — Jesse Edwards had his third double-double in six games, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to help West Virginia hold off Bellarmine late, 62-58. The Mountaineers (3-3) bounced back from a pair of losses at the Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament, falling to SMU and dropping a 56-54 decision to No. 24 Virginia.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Jalen Blackmon scored 26 points and Stetson made its last 14 straight from the free throw line to upset UCF 85-82. UCF had won the last 20 straight meetings between the Florida rivals.
WACO, Texas (AP) — Yaya Felder scored 16 points and and Sarah Andrews added 15 and No. 14 Baylor rolled to a 93-47 win over Alcorn State. Aijha Blackwell and Jana Van Gytenbeek added 11 points and five assists each for the Bears. The Bears made 11 of 29 3-pointers and shot 55% overall while outrebounding the Lady Braves 35-19. Nakia Cheatham scored 13 points for Alcorn State. Trailing 4-3, Blackwell converted a three-point play to start the Bears on a 19-0 run. Madison Bartley also had a three-point play and Van Gytenbeek drilled a 3-pointer. It was 24-6 at the end of the quarter. Blackwell and Andrews combined for 15 points in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 51-20 at the half.
