LOS ANGELES – The LA Galaxy Academy U-14s are set to travel to Portugal to compete in the 2023 Portimão International Cup from Nov. 3-5.
The LA Galaxy Academy U-14s have been placed in Group A along with Liverpool FC (England), Portimonense S.C. (Portugal), Brøndby IF (Denmark), SBV Excelsior Rotterdam (Netherlands), FC Nõmme United (Estonia) and Progress Cantera (Netherlands). In group stage play on Friday, Nov. 3, the LA Galaxy Academy U-14s will square off against FC Nõmme United, Progress Cantera and Brøndby IF. The next day, on Saturday, Nov. 4, the Galaxy’s U-14 side will face off against Liverpool, SBV Excelsior Rotterdam and Portimonense S.C.
Through 11 games played during the 2023 MLS NEXT campaign, the U-14 LA Galaxy Academy holds a record of 11-0-0. For the first time in program history, the LA Galaxy Academy has added the U-14 age group to the LA Galaxy Academy School education program and the squad trains full-time Monday through Friday.
“Since adding our U-14 Academy program to our school, we have seen so much growth not only on the field, but with maturity off the field in a short amount of time,” said Mike Muñoz, Director of Methodology and Development. “We feel we have an opportunity to really accelerate our youth by being a part of our full-time program. We look forward to continuing their development against top European competition.”
