KEWASKUM — Howie Guja of The Prize Patrol from Publishers Clearing House (PCH) traveled to Kewaskum on Friday to award a new Ford Expedition XL STX or its cash value to winner and village resident Phil Knox.
According to information from its website, PCH, which is renowned for awarding over half a billion dollars in prizes nationwide, has come to be known as the sweepstakes company whose famous Prize Patrol surprises winners on their doorsteps with oversized checks in amounts anywhere from $1,000 to multi-millions while TV cameras are rolling. These reactions of stunned winners have entertained audiences across America.
In this particular instance, Guja and his crew stopped at Kewaskum’s Piggly Wiggly for flowers and balloons, then went straight up to Knox’s doorstep to present the prize. He got to choose the new car or the cash value of $57,815.00. Knox went with the money, and felt blessed for the opportunity.
“We’ve been praying for it,” said Knox. “Someone upstairs looks after me.”
Knox said that he’s entered a number of sweepstakes over the years, a number of them through PCH, and never won anything like this before.
Kewaskum Police Chief Tom Bishop commented on the experience of having something like this in the village.
“You see it on TV or wherever,” said Bishop, “I had to make sure it was real.”
