North Carolina Representative Michael Wray filed for re-election today to serve the 27th House District for Halifax, Warren and Northampton counties.
Filing began Monday and will end at noon on December 15.
“It’s been a great honor to serve the people of this district in the state House,” Wray said in a statement. “My record of service speaks for itself. This past session, I worked with leaders in both parties and with the governor to get Medicaid expansion approved. This one piece of legislation will help serve working families and strengthen our healthcare delivery system in this rural region of North Carolina.”
He said, however, “We need to do more. If I am re-elected, I will work to further strengthen our rural healthcare delivery system — working to stabilize the financial conditions for rural hospitals and rural doctors and other healthcare providers. I don’t know what the specifics will look like at this time, but I do know there is support in the General Assembly to ensure the success of rural hospitals and rural healthcare professionals.”
Wray said, “Another area that I will focus on if re-elected will be helping provide affordable healthcare insurance options to middle-class families. We have passed Medicaid expansion. Now, let’s get to work to make healthcare insurance more affordable for middle-class families.”
Wray said he will continue to be a champion for public education. “I believe that our public education system is a major step in the economic ladder to success. That means we must continue to invest in our public schools, especially our rural school systems with competitive pay to recruit and retain the best teachers in our classrooms.”
Wray said he will continue to work for job growth efforts in his district. “We must make sure that we have an economic development plan that works for our region and that we recruit new industries and new jobs that offer top wages and benefits.
“One critical component to successful economic development is our community college system. I will be a champion for our community colleges and their job training programs.”
