Post-Thanksgiving travel rush expected to hit airports, roads this weekend

Date:

The Thanksgiving travel rush of earlier in the week lightened considerably on Thursday and Friday, but now things are expected to get very busy again on the ground and in the sky.

A spokesperson for BWI Marshall Airport said things will start getting busier again there on Saturday, and Sunday is expected to be the single busiest day of the entire Thanksgiving travel period.

A spokesperson for Reagan National and Dulles airports indicated Sunday will be one of the two busiest days and possibly the busiest.

On the roads, traffic moved slowly near shopping malls on Black Friday, but overall it was much easier to drive around the D.C. area than on a normal weekday.

Travelers returning from Thanksgiving trips will make roads congested again on Saturday and Sunday. AAA predicts the heaviest traffic will be between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on both days, with the predicted best travel times being before noon each day.
