Qatar said Sunday that the political office of militant group Hamas in Doha will remain open as long as it can be used toward peace. “There is no reason to close it now,” Majed Al Ansari, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said at a press conference in Doha.
The gulf state, which has hosted Hamas’s political office since 2012 and poured hundreds of millions of dollars of aid into Gaza, has previously said its relationship with Hamas benefits the U.S. and Israel, providing a channel to negotiate the release of hostages held in Gaza.
