Qatar Says Hamas Political Office in Doha to Stay Open

Date:

Qatar said Sunday that the political office of militant group Hamas in Doha will remain open as long as it can be used toward peace. ā€œThere is no reason to close it now,ā€ Majed Al Ansari, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said at a press conference in Doha.

The gulf state, which has hosted Hamasā€™s political office since 2012 and poured hundreds of millions of dollars of aid into Gaza, has previously said its relationship with Hamas benefits the U.S. and Israel, providing a channel to negotiate the release of hostages held in Gaza.
