Rainbow Wahine beat Anteaters in third consecutive sweep | News, Sports, Jobs

HONOLULU–The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team held off UC Irvine to record its third-straight sweep, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Amber Igiede paced the Rainbow Wahine (12-5, 5-1 Big West) with 11 kills, and Kate Lang notched her seventh double-double of the season with 30 assists and 11 digs.

Kendra Ham also had a team-high 11 digs to go along with seven kills and two aces, Paula Guersching was a kill shy of recording a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs, and Caylen Alexander chipped in eight kills for the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawaii outhit UC Irvine .217-.172 and outdug them 64-50.

Hunter Riedl and Marianna Bertolone led the Anteaters (4-13, 2-4) with eight kills apiece.

UH will next embark on its longest roadtrip of the season as it plays three road matches in five days. The Rainbow Wahine start off at UC Santa Barbara on Friday, followed by Cal Poly on Saturday and finish up at UC Davis on Oct. 17.
