Resurrection Island Tattoo Convention returns for its 3rd year, showcasing unique styles and live entertainment

Date:

The 3rd annual Resurrection Island Tattoo Convention is set for this weekend at Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack.

The event will bring more than 150 tattoo artists from nearly 25 states across the country.

Styles like realism and neo-traditional will be showcased.

Guests can look forward to live entertainment, such as burlesque and human suspension throughout the weekend.

“Some of the artists that are coming here are literally in a league of their own,” said Dennis Gilbert, Resurrection Island coordinator.

“So, all the local people that come through here, it’s a big deal. Some of these tattoos you can’t get in the valley, but there are people coming from across the country to tattoo people here.”

With now 3 years under their belts, they plan to make it nothing but bigger and better this year.

“All vendors will be live tattooing, which a ton will be available to give tattoos. It’s not just to see them tattooing, there will be a lot of availability, as well,” Gilbert said.

The convention not only serves as a fun weekend at the casino, but also a sign of inspiration for up-and-coming artists.

“The biggest reason is winning awards,” Gilbert said. “So, the people that take home trophies, now they’ve become award-winning artists.”

Hours are noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets are $25 per person.
