SKYHAWKS TRAVEL TO WEST ALABAMA FOR SECOND RODEO OF THE 2023-24 SEASON

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin continued its Ozark Region rodeo slate over the weekend as the Skyhawks took part in the event hosted by the University of West Alabama.
           
UT Martin placed seventh in the standings on both the men’s and women’s side as the Skyhawk cowgirls claimed 80 points and the UT Martin men’s team earned 70 points. Missouri Valley College (770 points) and West Alabama (440 points) finished atop the men’s and women’s standings, respectively.
           
Caden Ussery accumulated points in all three phases of the calf roping event for the men’s squad. The sophomore from Huntersville, NC placed second in the first round with a time of 10.4 seconds before finishing sixth in average (23.6) and in the short go (13.2).
           
On the women’s side, Kyndall Woltz came in sixth place in all three phases of breakaway roping. She finished with a 16.2 average after a 3.1 in the first go and a 13.1 in the short round.
           
Lainey Hutchison placed third in the opening round of goat tying with a time of 8.9 seconds in a competitive field.
           
A trio of Skyhawk cowgirls chalked up points in barrel racing. Madde Shelton finished second with a 32.57 average after placing fourth in both the opening round (16.38) and short go (16.19). Savannah Moran also accrued points in all three phases, finishing third in the opening round (16.34) and placing fifth in average (32.71) and in the short go (16.37). Allie Maxwell became the third UT Martin cowgirl to pick up points in the event as she finished third in the short round (16.13) and fourth in average (32.69).
           
The Skyhawks are back in action for the third consecutive weekend to begin the 2023-24 season when they head to Sikeston, Mo. for a rodeo hosted by Three Rivers College on Thursday, Oct. 5 through Saturday, Oct. 7.
