This Monos Weekender Bag Is Editor-loved

Date:

As a family travel editor, flying is a huge part of my — and my family’s — life. As a result, I’m always on the hunt for products that can relieve a little bit of the stress of taking trips with five people in tow. Enter my new travel obsession: the Monos Metro Weekender Bag, which is the latest member of the brand’s repertoire of Travel + Leisure-approved luggage and travel bags.

I’ve already shared my love for the Monos Carry-On Pro Plus before, so the Metro Weekender looked like the perfect addition to my growing luggage collection. As a family of five, we try to travel with all carry-ons as much as possible, and knowing that the Monos weekender bag was just as spacious as it was convenient made it that much more appealing.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Metro Weekender is its generous 19.25-inch by 10.25-inch by 14.75-inch frame. Unlike some of the other weekender bags that I owned in the past, the Metro has a solid structure, so it won’t compress and squish the things that you’ve packed inside. It’s the perfect size for when I go away for the weekend getaway with girlfriends, or to stash five days’ worth of kids’ clothes on top of my carry-on rolling suitcase.

It’s made of a water-resistant nylon twill and looks just as sleek as Monos’ other luggage pieces, and it has a trolley sleeve that lets it easily slip onto the handle of my Carry-On Pro Plus — which I love because it makes it one less thing to have to lug through an airport. Parents who know the struggle of watching a small child attempt to roll a suitcase will relate.

What’s more, the Metro Weekender Bag has a clever outer sleeve that fits a 16-inch laptop and multiple interior pockets that make organizing a breeze. But, my favorite part may be the structured zippered lower compartment to store shoes, toiletries, laundry, and anything else that you need easy access to. And to my surprise, it’s pretty spacious. Granted, I do have smaller feet, but three pairs of my shoes fit in there with no problem, and I love that I can rest assured that they won’t get squashed or misshapen. Like one reviewer raved, “Every pocket is thoughtful and makes sense,” and I completely agree.

In fact, I recently took the bag on a Delta flight and was able to carry it on as a personal item, and while I’m sure it depends on the airline, it did fit under the seat — but considering its generous size, it’s probably easier on your legs to stow it overhead if there’s room. Another shopper shared that they were also able to bring it as a personal item on their JetBlue flight. If you’re not a frequent flier, it would also be a great bag for train travel, and it’s definitely my new go-to for road trips.

The Monos Metro Weekender is available in four chic nylon colors and three gorgeous shades of vegan leather. It also comes with a shoulder strap for multiple carrying options. I know that this versatile, high-quality bag will be used for years to come, and I’m already dreaming of my next trip to take it on.
