FOTAS will hold its annual helicopter ball drop and Playing Fore the Pets Golf Tournament today at the The Reserve Club at Woodside, 3000 The Reserve Club Drive. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the ball drop at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $125 per golfer and includes breakfast, 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls and practice facility, golfer gift and lunch. A Book Club for adults will meet Tuesdays, Oct. 17 and 24, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. Group B will meet Oct. 17 and will discuss “Ghost on Black Mountain” by Ann Hite. Group A will meet Oct. 24 and discuss “The Codebreaker’s Secret” by Sara Ackerman. Citizens for Nuclear Technology will host the 32nd annual Edward Teller Lecture and Banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Amentum Performing Arts Center, 126 Newberry St. S.W. The lecture will be followed by a dinner reception across the street at Newberry Hall, 117 Newberry St. S.W. The distinguished guest speaker is the Honorable Joyce Connery, who serves as the chair of the Defense Nuclear Safety Board. Several award and scholarship winners will be recognized at the event. FRIDAY

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office will hold the 2023 Pauper Burial service at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Graniteville Cemetery, 1377 Gregg Highway, Graniteville. The service is open to all who want to attend.

A Trick-or-Treat Drop In will be held Friday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aiken County Visitors Center, 135 Laurens St. N.W. Drop in, make a quick craft, get a spooky treat, show off your costume and pose for a photo-op. The event is free to the public while supplies last.

Halloween Storytime and Trick-or-Treating will be held Friday, Oct. 27, at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. Storytimes will be held at 10:15-10:30 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. to noon. Trick-or-treating will be from 10:30-11:40 a.m. Costumes are encouraged by not required. Registration for storytime starts on Tuesday, Oct. 10. You can only sign up for one storytime. There is no registration for trick-or-treating.

The Back to Basics Alcoholics Anonymous group will meet in-person at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 961 Trail Ridge Road. Masks are encouraged for those who are not vaccinated.

Quakers (Religious Society of Friends) will hold virtual services Sunday. Meetings are open to all and visitors are warmly welcomed.
