The Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation announced five people who will be added to its Hall for the 2023 class, including two skiers, one fencer, a basketball coach and a sportswriter.
Stein Eriksen: A Norwegian skiing star, Eriksen spent 35 years as the director of skiing for Deer Valley Resort.
Ted Ligety: The two-time Olympic gold medalist and a top all-time slalom racer, Ligety started training in Park City at 10 years old.
Dave Rose: The 14-year head coach of BYU men’s basketball also coached at then-Dixie State College and at Millard High School.
Julie Thompson Seal: The 14-time national champion fencer is also a highly ranked fencing referee and operates a training club in Pleasant Grove.
Tom Wharton: In a journalism career that spanned more than 50 years for The Salt Lake Tribune, Wharton covered every corner of the state for high school sports and outdoors reporting.
