Walmart employee supporting blind daughter receives big surprise

Date:

ATLANTA, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) – Allen Pysher is 95 years old and hard of hearing.

His daughter Elizabeth is 78 and legally blind.

Elizabeth told the Atlanta News First Surprise Squad that her father is her hero.

“He’s just always there for me. He takes me to work every morning,” Elizabeth said.

“It makes me feel good to take care of her,” Allen said.

It’s easy to see just how much Allen loves his daughter.

“He doesn’t like being taken care of. He’s very independent. And wants to always do for me instead of me doing for him,” Elizabeth said.

In fact, Allen is so independent that he still goes to his job at Walmart every day. He’s worked for Walmart for 20 years.

That’s why the Atlanta News First Surprise Squad and many others wanted to recognize him.

“People see him and his work ethic – he’s never quit. It’s an inspiration to everybody, ” said Cherokee County Commissioner Richard Weatherby.

“At 95 years of age, he comes to work on time. Doesn’t miss any work. So we really appreciate that,” said James Lanier, the store manager of the Walmart Allen works at.

And as part of his recognition by the store and community, Allen was given several gifts.

Walmart gifted him an all-expense paid tune-up for his vehicle.

The Surprise Squad gifted him a $250 gift certificate to his favorite restaurant.

And he even got a check for $1,000.

“Thank you very much,” Allen said. “I didn’t expect anything like this. The tears that you see are happy tears.”

The Atlanta News First Surprise Squad is sponsored by United Community Bank and Van Sant Law: Personal Injury Attorneys.
